June: Walk for Dog Guides

Sunday June 1, 2025

A photograph of a young woman sitting on a rock holding the leash of a black dog guide who is lying at her feet. She is wearing a bright blue Walk for Dog Guides tshirt and is smiling at the camera. There are metal columns behind her and vegetation behind that.
The Sunshine Coast Lions Club partners with Pet Value in Trail Bay Centre to host an annual Walk for Dog Guides.

What is the Walk for Dog Guides?

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG) is a national charity that was created by the Lions of Canada. Its mission is to empower Canadians with disabilities to navigate their world with confidence and independence by providing a Dog Guide at no cost and supporting them in their journey together.

Since 1983, LFCDG has been providing specially trained dog guides to men, women and children across Canada. Dog Guides are trained to support:

  • people who are blind or visually impaired,
  • those with hearing, medical and physical disabilities, epilepsy, autism, diabetes
  • professional agencies assisting people in traumatic situations.

LFCDG does not receive any government funding and relies on the support of fundraising events like the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides.

How do I Participate?

To participate, be outside the Pet Valu in Trail Bay Mall by 10:30am. Registration costs $20.

You can contribute further by getting a sponsorship form ahead of time and asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you for the walk. Learn more at the Walk for Dog Guides website.

The walk starts at Pet Valu in Trail Bay Centre and ends at Hackett Park.

The Lions will be providing every participant with a free hamburger or hot dog lunch. Pet Valu will provide treats for all the dogs.

Please come out, enjoy a walk with your dog, and support this great cause.
